  Piloting Course

When piloting, navigators refer to landmarks, aids to navigation, and depth soundings to pinpoint the boat’s position. Piloting is the type of navigation practised in lakes, rivers, bays and sounds, in areas close to shore, and in harbour approaches.

The CPS Piloting Course discusses the three aspects of piloting:

1.   Knowledge of charts, chart work and the plot;

2.   Awareness of conditions, and the seamanship skills needed to deal with them;

3.   Boat and crew.

This is an advanced course and successful completion of the CPS Boating Course is a prerequisite.
